Cross My Heart and Hope to Die.... Is it ever okay to tell a secret?

Is it ever okay to share a secret? That was the topic of discussion this past weekend at a friend’s dinner party.

The resounding answer was YES. Here were some of the comments:
  • As long as it’s in a different circle.
  • It depends on the situation.
  • It wasn’t really a secret if you told someone.
  • If it’s a detriment to someone safety.
  • If it has anything with safety and concern of children.
  • If the secret can be used as a learning tool.
What’s your take?

Yes! It depends. If no one will be hurt, I won't tell it. You can't a secret in a different circle because the world is too small and u never know who may know who!

Hmmm... In theory, I feel, unless someone is in impending danger we should NOT tell a secret.

Confidentiality and boundaries should be respected. How can we consider ourselves good friends if we tell what they've (friends/relatives) asked us NOT too?

Having said that I'm sure we've all been guilty of breaching trust confiding in our confidant (usually a closer friend or spouse)with the stipulation that "they can't tell anyone!" Ironic huh?

My friend says the only secrets are the ones' you take to your grave! If you're afraid of it getting out - DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!
