Skin Deep

Hey Ladies it's that time again when the leaves start falling and it gets dark at 5:00pm. It's around this time when women of color tend to get extra dry & ashy. Get ready to stock up on some moisturizer. Here are my absolute faves for winter.
Kiehl's Creme De Corps depending on the size it's $16.00 -$44.00 and it's worth every penny. This cream is so rich. It will keep your skin moisturized all day long and your skin will be soft to the touch. I love it!! You can find it in Sak's Fifth Avenue & Neiman Marcus or go to http://www.kiehls.com/.

Another fave is Pooka's Papaya Body Butter. First of all, this stuff will have you smelling absolutely delicious. It's main ingredient is shea butter which is an excellent moisturizer. The butter is very thick so you have to do a little rubbing in, but girl once it's on .....you'll be feeling like butter yourself ($14.00). Go to http://www.pookapureandsimple.com/

This may sound a little weird, but trust me on this one. BARC - Razor Bump Relief is the bomb ($20.00). This is actually an after shave for men of color. It does 3 things moisturize, fades blemishes, and prevents ingrown hairs. You can use this alone or add moisturizer. I have used it alone and it's enough to have your skin feeling like silk, and if you have any blemishes on your body this will surely get rid of them. To my knowledge this is only sold at Ricky's (http://www.rickys-nyc.com/) or go to http://www.getbarc.com/.

Face First

Women of color usually have a difficult time finding the right make-up. I’ve spent countless dollars on trying to find the perfect foundation for my skin. One that I can use daily without looking “made up”. Thanks to a girlfriend of mine who suggested I try,” Bare Escentuals”. I can’t say enough about this stuff. Not only does it give you a natural look it’s actually good for your skin (free of chemicals & has an SPF of 15). You can apply as little or as much as you want to achieve your desired look. My skin cleared up within the first two weeks of usage. I’ve been using it for a little over a year now. I suggest the introductory kit that comes with several brushes, foundation and other goodies for around $60-$65. I also recommend their skin rev-er upper that’s applied prior to foundation. Go to http://www.bareescentuals.com/ or http://www.sephora.com/.
Okay, yes Bare Escentuals is the bomb, but it shouldn’t be used as a band-aid to cover up bad skin. You still need to take care of your face. I really recommend Aveeno Facial Cleansing Bar ($1.99). It’s good & cheap.
You should apply it with a Sluff Puff ($2.99 - an absolute must-have), it feels a little abrasive at first, but you’ll get use to it. It helps exfoliate your skin, and as you should know exfoliation is an important part of any skin care regimen.
